The Beatles - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Well this has been my first post in a looooooooooong time. I should be working right now (aka why I am getting around to posting this, so I will put my update in point form!!!!

- As some of you know I was hit by a car at the start of this summer. I had some decent tissue damage but nothing broken. It was possible the scariest thing that has happened to me. All I remember is feeling something pushing me, realizing I was falling and thinking "I’m going to die". At that point I was super calm actually. My brain just accepted the fact that I might be done for. It was much later that it really freaked me out.

- I'm getting a new laptop! I am so sick of Windows that I am getting an iBook and selling my Compaq. It also turns out that I will score a free iPod out of the deal.

- I am going to see Pearl Jam in a couple months and I am really excited. They are playing two shows here and instead of opening bands they are playing extra long sets. Now I just need a ticket to the second show.

- I am working two jobs that both suck. I am a cashier in a grocery store that is much like Thrifty's. I realize on a daily basis how crappy most people are. How hard is it to be a decent human being?

- I have been in a bit of a funk these days. No reason really but I just have been feeling unfulfilled. I know one is only supposed to talk about their emotional state on livejournal while drunk but I break past suck rigid rules.

- Neil Young at live 8 was so beautiful that I would have cried if I wasn't dead inside =;)

- All the NDP bills have been passing. Yay NDP budget. Yay same sex marriage. Boo refusal to increase spending to countries in need.

- For those that I cannot spend time with in person......I miss you.

- awwwwww you thought I was going to cry on the last one didn't you? Well I guess you underestimated my zombieesque heart.

1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
About 50 I would say.

2) The last film I bought:
It has bee awhile. The last one I acctually bought, as oposed to recieving as a gift, was "My Neighbour Totoro" for 5 bucks on DVD. I love that adorable cat/monster thing!

3) The last film I watched:
a) In the theater? Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It was good but a little dissapointing at the same time.
b) On DVD? Dancer in the Dark. This film was GREAT, but as I said after watching it "this movie is to sad what porn is to sex".
c) On TV? I have no idea.

4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
a) Amelie
b) Donnie Darko (Thanks Micheal, I didn't even have to change these first two)
c) Dr. Strangelove
d) Pleasentville
e) Magnolia

5) Tag 5 people and have them put this in their journal:
spectre_general
intheirsoup
red_stardust
marciaw
notsoblind

Well I am no longer an unemployed bum! I got the job at Sobeys. To be honest I thought I was out of luck since I thought they were supposed to call me two days ago. While I am a little unsure about being a cashier, the fact that I no longer have to stress about a summer job and the idea of only having to walk two blocks to work make up for it!

I went to an interview today to work at the illusturous Sobey's. I would be put in the position of cashier if I get the job and while that is most likly my least desired position it will still be a paycheck.

I just picked up the M.I.A. cd and it is amazing! I would recomend this album to anyone with an open mind and a desire to shake what their mothers gave them. I recomend going to www.miauk.com and checking out the "sunflower" video with the volume cranked.

11 more days B.C.
I went to a great party/fundraiser last night! It was at my friend Liam Walsh's house and all sorts of good times were to be had. The Young NDP raised some much needed cash and that alone made the night worthwhile. However, what made the night so memorable was the performance by Colleen Power. It was a very relaxed situation of her playing solo to a crowd of around 15 in the living room and it was spectacular.

Also I have been tentatively hired by MUN to work on a research position if the department can find a way to pay me. Apparently I cannot do a MUCEO, due to taking the summer off, but they are searching for an alternative means of payment. This would be good because MUCEPs pay poorly and the hours are limited.

To end this post I will recommend three activities if you find yourself in the sorry state of being bored.

1. Go buy some duck food and feed some ducks. Ducks are adorable and thus need proper nutrients and not merely the chunks of white bread that most people whip at them.

2. Write Ryan Jarman a letter at 17-B Hayward Ave. A1C 3W1 St.John's NL

3. Tell someone you love them...................no I'm fucking with you. Get drunk at an unreasonable early hour and see how well you can mingle with the average (aka sober) world. Think of it as drunken ninja stealth.

p.s. Apparently my mood is quixotic. I assume this is some merge of Trivial Pursuit and porn or Nestle Quix and porn, either way is good in my book!

Well grades are out and I did pretty good. I mean I broke no records but my work ethic was horrible this year and my average went up a little. I think I will get around to declaring honors in Poli Sci next semester and get around to graduating. Hopefully then I can get my Masters, Phd, and teach.

Pearl Jam is coming to St.John's!!!!! It's crazy, no bands come here but when one does it's Pearl Jam! Very very cool.

My plans for this summer are flex my creativity and do some work in stage and video. I also want to read a couple Dickens novels.

I know I promised this post would be funny but I'm drinking a glass of wine and the Ben Folds song playing now is about Elliot Smith (R.I.P.)

Maybe someone can explain to me why everyone (including a lot of non-catholics) seem excited about this new pope!?!??!

The guy is anti-homosexual, against reaching out to cooperate with other religions, opposed to any church reforms, against rock music, and most likely will continue the banning of birth control methods for his followers. So what we have is a continuation of a stone age religious agenda and helping the continuation of aids spreading across the third world. Maybe I'm missing something but I was really hoping for a slightly more progressive pope and not, what seems to be, an even more conservative ruler.

sigh.

p.s. If you live in B.C. get out and vote in 27 days!!!! Gordie looks like he may take office again but it looks like he will not have nearly the majority he did last time.

p.p.s. I predict the national election will be called within a month and a half.

p.p.p.s Next post will be funny.......I promise.

I am almost impressing myself with my procrastination skills at this point!!!!

I bought a compilation of four Zelda games today! Hopefully the incentive of playing 8-bit Zelda will be inspiration enough to complete the essays still panding. Well that and a whole lot of beer. (MMMMMMMMMMMMMM beer and zelda)

For my brief, yet common place, political comment I will just recommend looking a the latest Kyoto plan with a grain of salt. It looks all nice and pricey but the fact that most of the emission cuts come from the general population seems odd to me. It is well known that business produces a lot more emissions than the average joe.

Well I'm sure that bored some of my friends. I am sorry. What do you people expect from me? Some sort of tall red headed joke machine? Well you can go to hell! That's right. Maybe I just want to be loved for me. Maybe sometimes I want to laugh. Maybe sometimes I don't want to have to go home after the bar, put on glitter paint, and hold the cat weeping in the corner. Is that too much to ask? Huh? Huh?..........I've said too much...........um..........man those Conservatives like, um, suck and stuff, huh?

Well I am officially ready to flush these term papers down the toilet, put on a tinfoil hat, and live the rest of my day in the forrest.

In all seriousness, I am about to hand what I know is a bad paper and I just don't care anymore. If I don't stretch my creative/politically active muscles this summer I think I will go batty. I am looking to collab on a play (looking at you Bath) and am working on something with Mrs. Kayla (Completion date 2013) so that is a good start.

Well enough whining and time for some complaining. I LOATHE Harper, I really really do. The man is the definition of scum and it looks like he may well be the next leader of Canada. Look at the horrible anti-constitutional bill he is trying to pass against gay marriage today and you will see the depths of his wankertude. It makes me really depressed that I feel that the NDP are a viable alternetive to make this country run better but people only look toward the corrupt bastards or a homophobic asshole. Well I guess this is the game I decided to play when I got into the political world but all the same.....ick!

THINGS YOU SHOULD DO TODAY (or a day that is in near proximity): Watch Garden State, Dance to the new Beck single, watch a strong bad e-mail, eat a dill pickle, and finally go out there and pet a kitty (No I'm serious, if you do not pet said kitty I will find you and make you pet so many kitty's as to make your hand irrationally dry BWHWHWHWHAHAHAH!!!)

I am writing a research paper on recycling in St.John's and am about to melt into the keyboard with boredom. If you know anywhere that I can get some solid facts about this topic, or recycling policy at all, I would be eternally grateful.

On a happier note, Kalea brought back some cookie dough Pop Tarts from the States and they are certified yum-tastic. I am sure that they will give me some horrible disease with all of the preservatives but damn it if cookie dough is not the best stuff ever.......well beside pickles.

Yet another detour in thought is the fact that I need a job this summer. I would love to get a job that I feel good about (aka some socially progressive organization) but in the end I will most likly end up begging for a job at a Sobeys deli (reliving the vegetarian dream of serving head cheese to people that constantly sneer and yell at you for going 1 gram over). If anyone knows somewhere hiring for the summer I would yet again be eternally grateful.

Well back to bs-ing my way through this poorly researched paper.

Sometimes I feel like I'm made of paper.........ok even I don't know what the fuck that means. I really can be too weird even for myself sometimes.

I went to the English/Poli Ssi/NDP/geography mixers last night and they were pretty damn fun. Kalea brought me back two small bottles of fireball whiskey from B.C. so I relived my old habit of carrying it in my breast pocket and taking the occasional sip in public (oooh I'm so bad). I ended up at the Breezeway and then at Bitters. My friend, who shall go unnamed, actually got kicked out of Bitters for being "too loud". It was a ridiculous reason, as he wasn't that loud and it is a bar; however, even I will admit going back in the bar and threatening to rip the bartenders throat out, if he ever did it again, was not the best call (although at the time it was very amusing).

I am going to have some coffee (fresh ground kicking horse from B.C.!!!), listen to a lot of Neil Young, and try to finish up a couple essays.

p.s.
yikes

The Liberals are even sleazier than I thought! They made me throw up a little when they pretended to run on an "NDP friendly" campaign to trick NDP supporters into their oooh Conservatives will win scare campaign. Now the details of the Gomery inquiry are coming out and I swear it comes across as a bad mobster movie. My favorite line in the recent CBC report is as follows:

"Brault says he was asked to meet Morselli in an Italian restaurant and leave envelopes with thousands of dollars in cash for the party on a chair."

It's even the stereotypical Italian resturaunt! I heard rumbling that mafia connections will be revealed and now the prospect does not seem so ridiculous.

Well enough of that. Although on a related issue, I have joined my local NDP ridings executive and now feel a little better about my own political participation.

Lastly I will say that those in Newfoundland MUST check out the latest issue of the MUSE. It has a humorous article on my rival in the MUNSU election (who I sadly lost to by 101 votes). Basically the fact that he put himself, in the context of his student union position, on eBay as advertising space is not sitting well with MUNSU. His refusal to speak to the MUSE before talking to his legal council is my favouriet part. It will be interesting to see what happens May 1st when the new executive kicks in.

Kalea comes home today form her 10 day trip to B.C. so I better start removing the pizza boxes and beer bottles.

Cheers,
Ryan

Live journals scare me aka test test

This is a test post.

Sigh...my journal has already become a web cliche.

It is two in the mourning and I am writing an essay (well at least I should be) that is due in lee than 7 hours.

I basically want to do this to keep in touch with those that I miss in Victoria and maybe even have them interact with my new Newfoundland chums.

More to come soon.....I mean I have more essays!.........double sigh
